Our Birth Philosophy

At Conscious Birth Hub, our approach combines science-backed mind techniques that help reduce fear and anxiety with evidence-based knowledge of the mind–body connection, empowering you to approach birth feeling calm, confident, and informed.

This leads to:

  • A deep understanding of birth physiology

  • Being conscious of our rights during birth

  • Becoming consciously connected to our mindset, emotions & intuition

These three pillars form the basis of everything we share.

Because when we are each conscious of these aspects, we can confidently advocate for ourselves to bring the best outcome for our birth and our baby, no matter how we choose to birth.

Hypnobirthing forms the foundation of our approach.

No meditation, being put to sleep, mind control, or disconnecting from your body during birth. Instead, you'll learn simple yet powerful self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques that help you feel ready - calm, focused, and prepared for any birth eventuality. When you're relaxed, you're often better able to work with your body during labour, making the experience feel more manageable and positive. The more you understand about birth, the better prepared you'll be to navigate unexpected situations and make informed decisions.

And if you opt for a medicated birth, a planned caesarean, or an emergency caesarean, these relaxation techniques can still support you. The tools can be used in any birth setting, helping you feel calmer, more in control, and better able to navigate however you end up giving birth.

Conscious Birth Hub was inspired by my own birth experiences (read my birth stories here) and countless conversations with insightful and dedicated mothers. The fact is that too many mothers have had traumatic births and regret their choices, whether due to lack of information, or having their innate intuition overruled by caregivers.

I strive to support every mother in making birth decisions that feel truly right for her situation, after carefully considering her options and strengthening her connection to her body and intuition. Often routine clinical practices can shape the recommendations women and birthing people receive, event when a more individualised approach may be more appropriate. I aim to support mothers to navigate these situations with confidence, advocate for themselves, and find their voice.

I also champion the birthing partners important role of protecting the birth space, and protecting the birthing experience of the mother, so that both mother and baby have the best possible start to their life together.

“Motherhood means creating future generations of people. When you have such a privilege and responsibility, it must be conducted consciously” —Sadhguru

Conscious Parenting is also a growing movement, pioneered by Dr Shefali through her best-selling book 'The Conscious Parent', which applies the same principles of bringing conscious awareness to parenting. This includes becoming mindful of your behaviour and engaging with your child as an individual. We recommend this mindset from pregnancy.

Even more specifically, a 'conscious birth' (which can lead to an 'ecstatic birth') is considered to be where your awareness stays present and you are an active participant in the process. Experiencing birth this way can be one of the most empowering events in your life, and is a rite of passage that has the potential to completely transform how you see yourself and the world. But no matter your choice of birth method, we are here to support you in achieving that indescribable feeling of satisfaction and achievement, in relation to your birth.

Birth Companions, UK

Birth Companions Logo

Birth Companions is a women’s charity dedicated to tackling inequalities and disadvantage during pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. They were founded in 1996 to support pregnant women and new mothers in Holloway Prison, London. Since then, they’ve become experts in meeting the needs of women living in the most challenging situations, whether in prison or in the community. Led by and for women, the charity provide practical and emotional support services, especially during childbirth, and many of those supported go on to join their Lived Experience Team. The LET is a group of over 50 women who benefitted from the program and later trained to become Birth Companions themselves. They are committed to passing on the help they previously received, drawing on their own experiences and the charity's research, policy work and training. Together, the Companions are achieving real change in the way women and their babies are cared for across the UK and beyond.

Conscious Birth Hub is providing 10% of profits to Birth Companions. So for every session booked, wisdom sheet downloaded, or conscious product bought, a disadvantaged mother is receiving vital support for her own pregnancy. CBH founder Melina is also providing free hypnobirthing training support to all Birth Companions through the LET training program.
